      How to Add a New Language and Translations

      Add a New Language

      To expand the language options on your website, follow these steps:

      1. Log in to the ikas Dashboard:

        Sign in to your ikas dashboard.

      2. Access the Language Settings:

        Click on the Settings tab in the left menu and select Languages and Translations.

      3. Add a New Language:

        • Click on Add New Language and select the language you want to add.
        • Click Next to continue.

      4. Choose a Theme Template:

        You will now be prompted to select a template for the theme. You have two options:

        • Setup with Theme Default (recommended if you are building the theme from scratch).

        • Copy From Existing Language (choose this option if you want to adopt the theme of an existing language).

          If you select the theme of another language, you will need to choose the language to be used as the base and specify which sales channels this language should apply to.

      5. Save:

        Save your selection to add the new language.

      Edit Translations

      1. Open the Translations Section:

        Click on the language you want to edit.

      2. Select a Section:

        Choose a section whose text modules you wish to translate.

      3. Edit Translations:

        • Click on one of the text modules listed on the left to edit its translation.
        • In the left column, you’ll see the default texts in the original language. In the right column, you can enter the translations for your selected language.

        Translated text modules are displayed in color on the left.

      4. Filter Translations (optional):

        Use the toggle icon next to the search bar to filter and display either translated or untranslated text modules.

      5. Save:

        Don’t forget to save your changes.

       

      Important: There is no automatic translation feature available in ikas. If you want to present your website in multiple languages, manual translation is required.

      Export and Import Translations

      It’s also possible to export translations, make adjustments, and then import them back. You’ll find the export and import buttons in each translation section. Please note that each section is exported and imported separately.

      Static Theme Translations

      Once you've added a new language and adjusted the translations as described above, you should also check the static theme translations. These include translations for the theme elements, such as buttons, standard text, and other recurring elements of the website.

      For the languages English, German, Turkish, and French, we provide pre-made translations. For all other languages, you will need to manually adjust the corresponding labels and texts.
