How to Make Your Online Shop Accessible

Would you like to make your online shop accessible and prepare for legal requirements? Then the accessibility widget is just the right tool for you.

What Is the Accessibility Strengthening Act?

The Accessibility Strengthening Act (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, BFSG) requires companies to design digital products and services — including online shops — in a way that makes them accessible to everyone.
The goal is to ensure equal access, especially for people with disabilities — for example, through simple visual adjustments that make reading and navigating the website easier.

This law is based on the EU Directive (EU) 2019/882 and will apply in Germany starting June 28, 2025.

Whether your shop is affected depends on the size of your business. Microenterprises are exempt from the regulation.

For more information, visit the Federal Accessibility Office (Bundesfachstelle Barrierefreiheit).

Why Use a Widget?

An accessibility widget is a simple and effective way to make your shop more accessible right now – as a service to your customers and as preparation for upcoming legal obligations.

The widget can be embedded into ikas via an external script – without any coding skills required.
