How to Create and Manage Custom Fields

Custom Fields allow you to add additional information to products that goes beyond the regular product description. These appear as their own tab on product pages and help to clearly and neatly present specific product details.

Once custom fields are created, they must be activated in the relevant products. For example, when an attribute table is created, only the basic structure is available initially. The cells must be filled in the respective products. For a single selection, the attribute must be activated in the product, and one of the available options must be selected.

Creating Attributes

  1. Log in to the ikas Dashboard:

    Sign in to your ikas dashboard.

  2. Access Custom Fields:

    In the left menu, click on Products > Definitions and select Custom Fields.

  3. Create a New Attribute:

    Click on the Add New Attribute button.

  4. Fill in General Information: A new window will open on the right side where the following information must be filled in:

    • Name: Choose a name for the attribute.
    • Type: Select the attribute type. The following options are available:
      • Boolean: A checkbox that can be enabled or disabled for a product. The checkbox represents a truth value (true or false). Once activated in the product, the checkbox can be edited.
      • Single Selection: Enter different option values and confirm each with Enter. The order of the options can be changed via drag-and-drop. Once activated in the product, a single selection can be made from the predefined values.
      • Color: Enter different colors and confirm each with Enter. The color can be added via a color palette, HEX code, or an uploaded image. The order of the options can be changed via drag-and-drop. Once activated in the product, multiple selections can be made from the predefined colors.
      • Date: Assign a date to the product. Once activated in the product, a date can be selected.
      • Date and Time: Assign a date and time to the product. Once activated in the product, both date and time can be selected.
      • HTML: An input field with advanced formatting options to edit HTML content. Once activated in the product, the content can be edited.
      • Image: An image that can be added as an additional attribute to the product. Once activated in the product, the image can be uploaded.
      • Multiple Selection: Enter different option values and confirm each with Enter. The order of the options can be changed via drag-and-drop. Once activated in the product, multiple selections can be made from the predefined values.
      • Number: Assign a numerical value to the product. Once activated in the product, a number can be entered.
      • Product: Link the product to other products that will be displayed as attributes. Once activated in the product, existing products can be selected for linking.
      • Table: Create a table by entering column and row names and confirming each with Enter. A preview will be displayed. Once activated in the product, the table cells can be filled in.
      • Text Line: A short text field for additional product information. Once activated in the product, text can be added.
  5. Save the Attribute:

    Save the attribute by clicking the button below.

  6. Delete an Attribute (Optional):

    If you wish to delete a created attribute, open the attribute and click Delete at the bottom. Please note that the attribute must not be activated in any product.

Activating and Managing Attributes

Once the attribute has been created within the definitions, it needs to be activated in the relevant products. Follow these steps:

  1. Access the Product:

    Go to the left menu, click on Products > Products, and click on the product where you want to add an attribute.

  2. Add an Attribute:

    Scroll down to the Custom Fields section on the product detail page and click on the Add Attribute button.

  3. Select the Attribute:

    A window will open listing all the created attributes. Select the desired attribute and click Save.

    Note: You can also add new attributes by clicking Add New.

  4. Edit the Attribute:

    After the attribute has been added, you can customize it for the specific product and add further information. The added attributes will be listed below. You can edit them as follows:

    • Boolean: Enable or disable the checkbox for the product.
    • Single Selection: Choose one of the predefined options.
    • Color: Select one or more of the predefined colors.
    • Date: Select a date using a calendar.
    • Date and Time: Select a date and time using a calendar.
    • HTML: Edit the HTML content for advanced formatting.
    • Image: Upload an image.
    • Multiple Selection: Select multiple options from the predefined options.
    • Number: Enter a numerical value.
    • Product: Choose another product to link with the current product.
    • Table: Fill in the table content using the predefined column and row names.
    • Text Line: Add a short text.
  5. Deactivate an Attribute (Optional):

    If you want to remove an attribute, click on Edit Custom Attributes in the Custom Fields section and uncheck the corresponding attribute.

  6. Save:

    Don’t forget to save your changes.
