How to Place a Test Order

Why Should I Place a Test Order?

A test order helps you review the entire ordering process — from placing an order and completing the payment to receiving the order confirmation. This ensures your customers enjoy a smooth shopping experience and everything works correctly before you officially launch your store.

How to Place a Test Order

Since placing a direct test order via the ikas dashboard is not currently possible, you can follow this alternative method:

  1. Create a Test Product:

Create a product in your store with a symbolic price of 0.01 €. This product will serve as your test item.

  2. Activate Test Mode for Payments:

Make sure to activate test mode for your payment methods. This ensures that no real payments are processed, even when completing the checkout process. You can do this in the settings of your payment providers (e.g. PayPal, Stripe, etc.).

  3. Order the Test Product:

Add the test product to your cart and complete the checkout process like a real customer. Make sure to go through all the steps — from checkout and payment to the order confirmation.

  4. Check the Order Confirmation and Shipping Process:

After placing the order, verify that the order confirmation and all related details are displayed correctly. In your admin dashboard, check whether the order appears properly and has the correct status. Also, confirm that notifications (such as order confirmation and shipping confirmation) are being sent as expected.

  5. Tag Test Orders (Optional):

You can assign a special tag to your test orders to easily identify and distinguish them later. This makes it easier to separate test orders from real customer orders.

By placing a test order, you can ensure your store is set up correctly before going live. Once you’re satisfied with the test run, you can deactivate test mode and start accepting real orders.

Recommendation:

If you’re unsure how to properly handle test orders in your bookkeeping and tax declarations, we recommend consulting a tax advisor. This way, you can make sure no tax-related mistakes occur.
